Live Band Karaoke – FAQs

How does live band karaoke work?

Just like regular karaoke, except a lot more exciting!  When the singer gets on stage, they’ll be joining a five-piece band and they’ll be assuming the role of lead singer.  We’ll have the song lyrics on screen and our band will back up the singer(s) with back up vocals, drums, bass, guitars and keys.

What if I forget the words?

We have the lyrics on a big screen for the singer(s) and we provide back up vocals and vocal cues as needed.  We get it, people lose their spot or get on stage only to realize they don’t know the song that well.  We’ll be there to help!  Backing singers up is what we do.  Usually, we only have to sing a few lines to get a singer back on track.

How do people sign up?

This is also like regular karaoke.  We distribute song lists in the event space before we start.  When someone wants to sing they simply write their name and the song title on a sign up sheet and bring it to the sign up table.  Our emcee will add the singer to the list and call singers up in order.

Is there a lot of awkward silence in between songs?

No way!  We play “in-betweeners” in between songs while we’re waiting for the next singer to take the stage.  In-betweeners usually consist of us playing 30 seconds to two minutes of fairly recognizable songs/grooves that are not on our song list.  In other words, we keep the show and energy going!

Does live band karaoke go over well at corporate events?

Absolutely!  We play a lot of private and corporate events, and although they’re all different, most private events follow a similar trajectory: We warm up the stage by performing 3-4 songs with our vocalist to give people a chance to find a song they want to sing.  Then one brave singer becomes the first performer of the evening and they’re always well received.  When everyone sees how easy it is and how fun it looks, people start signing up.  At private events, we often get very large groups on stage for epic sing-alongs.  We go over well at corporate events for a lot of reasons, but one of the main reasons is the excitement of performing on stage with a live band and watching your co-workers and peers perform.  We have a blast playing corporate and private events and look forward to every event.

Are you an experienced band?

We’ve been actively playing as Hurricane Karaoke Band for over nine years and we’re not slowing down.  The main reason our experience is important is because live band karaoke is an art.  It takes finesse and attention to detail.  We’ve spent hundreds of shows dialing in our game to make sure that when a singer gets on stage, we’re ready to make them sound great.

What if no one signs up?

In over nine years of playing all types of private events, we’ve never had an event where no one signs up to sing.  If the rotation of singers slows down, which it occasionally does, we have a top notch lead vocalist.  Mikko, our lead vocalist, represented the U.S. in the 2018 World Karaoke Championship in Finland and won.

Do you provide sound equipment?

We provide full sound equipment and a sound technician as needed.

What if we want to sing something that’s not on your song list?

If you’re hiring us for a private event, we attempt to accommodate requests.  Occasionally, if asked to add multiple songs to our list for an event we’ll include an additional charge.
